EFCC Probes 18 States Governors

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced full scale investigation into the financial records of eighteen States Governors in Nigeria.

According to a press statement signed by the Chairman (EFCC) Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, revealed that eighteen State Governors would be charged to Court after leaving office as a result of misappropriation of public funds by their administrations.

It was revealed that since inception of the current administration in the country allocation given to State Government had increased by 200 percent, in a bid to further equip them to undertake more capital projects that would take dividends of democracy to the door steps of the people, instead of doing this, they were transferring government resources to their personal account.

It was gathered that the presidency felt dissatisfied with this development, buttressing that, despite the high funds being given to State Governors, they were unable to provide critical infrastructures for the people.

EFCC Chairman recounted his ordeal with one of the former Governors in Nigeria who was caught spraying dollars in a party in London and was arrested by the London Police who believed he had gone mad by his uncivilized manner of spraying money in the public.

It took the intervention of some of his friends to educate the police that, it was one of the cultural norms in Nigeria to spray money in the public and not a sign of madness

.The EFCC Chairman urged State Governors to be accountable to their people and make judicious use of resources within their states to improve the living standard of the people.
